I use a lot of sound fonts for my sounds. There are several options, but I 
prefer the BassMIDI driver, as it has extremely low latency (at least the odd 
numbered versions do -- avoid BassMIDI 2.x versions) and you can set it as your 
default player.
You'll need a virtual MIDI cable for a lot of other things. I use one to access 
the Proteus VX sound library player. You'll have to start this before you start 
QWS, but it has some great sounds in it.
You'll want something that records your audio. Gold Wave is shareware and does 
a good job.
