Who are these people and why are they doing Bad Things to MakeMaker? If there's some bug they're trying to work around I'd like to know about it. You don't have to, you can just upgrade MakeMaker into your own local library. You can get a copy at search.cpan.org/dist/ExtUtils-MakeMaker and install it with 'perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=~' to put it into your home directory. It should go somewhere in ~/lib.
