I am trying to install Mantis on my existing hosted webserver.

The problem is that the Mantis installation fails saying I need MySQL
4.1.0 or later. My server has 3.23.56. The manual says that MySQL
database 3.23.2 is minimum spec

I dont have admin rights to create a database myself but I have used the
control panel for my webserver to create it

I have looked at manually setting up by modifying config_inc.php but I
get this error when I try to run Mantis:

APPLICATION ERROR #401

Database query failed. Error received from database was #1064: You have
an error in your SQL syntax near 'NAMES UTF8' at line 1 for the query:
SET NAMES UTF8

Please use the "Back" button in your web browser to return to the
previous page. There you can correct whatever problems were identified
in this error or select another action. You can also click an option
from the menu bar to go directly to a new section.

Can anyone suggest where I am going wrong.

Peter Harris
