I may have already figured this out -- I disabled LDAP email gathering
and the delays are gone.

Hello list!
I'm evaluating a new installation of Mantis and I'm
experiencing a bug which I believe is being caused by Mantis or my php
installation.
When I view the details of an issue (view.php) the browser will
often only return about half of the page's content, and will hang. The
browser is not locked up from a windows perspective, however the
connection to the server is. Once PHP releases this session or I
manually delete the php session file, the connection to the server is
restored and I can browse again.
I'm having trouble narrowing this down past php sessions.
Please advise, list. :)
