[Victor] Backup is the only step you need to do before any of this upgrade work. You can move from pre-1.0.0 to 1.0.0 in one step and move from 1.0.0 to 1.1.x in one step. Hopefully no issues there. BTW, even though it is not required, it is still recommended to move to PHP 5, since PHP 4.x. is no longer supported by Zend.
