Your MapGuide Server, runs under a "Local System Account".
You can change the account, from the "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Services" application. Beware that you will most likely have to set up local permissions on the MapGuide folders if you change the account for the service.

Alternatively, the local system account from the MapGuide Server machine, must have read access to the shared folder. I'm not sure how to acomplish this, since the mapguide server uses the "Local System Account", and thus does not have a shared domain with the server hosting the files.

If you are unconserned with security, you might set up the share to allow "Guest" access.

Hi James Card and thanks for your reply,
I have tried UNC path(\\192.168.0.51\ <file://%5C%5C192.168.0.51%5C>) in my xml too, but the same error remains. Shall I change something in my mg site administrator to be able to access files over a LAN or ....? Thanks in Advance,

We typically don't use the "%MG_DATA_PATH_ALIAS[san-diego]%"
    syntax when
running unmanaged FeatureSources on our MGOS servers; we just put
    in the
UNC path "\\192.168.0.51\San Diego" (by the way, I'd avoid paths
containing SPACE characters -- still bad juju for Windows machines).
