Bruno, It is slow because for every layer in the map the web tier sends 2 requests (Authenticate + GetResourceContent) to the server. So in your map case there would be a minimum of 400 requests to the server. This is something we are aware of and would like to change. We have some test maps with over 700 layers. Ideally, we would like to change this down to about 2 requests regardless of the # of layers- ie: Authenticate + CreateMap. In order to do this we need to move the map creation to the server side and then serialize back to the web the created map object.
