Do you have connection pooling enabled or disabled for the SDF provider? Are you trying any operations which update the SDF files?

The end result is quite catastrophic : - All users are no long able to view any of these SDF datasources - tooltips on all layers stop working - all labels on all layers stop appearing - Testing of SDF connections using mapguide studio fails. There is also no indication in the error logs as to what the problem might be. The only way to get the effected layers and map working again is to performance a service restart.
