I've started to play around with PostGIS with 2.2 MGOS and so far, performance seems to match my unmanaged shp files (on a file server). I haven't run any specific tests, but just playing around with the ajax viewer. My install is of PostGIS 1.5 on PostgreSQL 9.0 is pretty much out of the box without any tuning, etc.
