On a unique map of the Holy Land published in Augsberg, ?1700 by Joann Georg Koller the following phrase is printed across the bottom. "Ad instantiam adin roi patris Francisci Caccia proviae Austriae Comissario Generali Terrae Sancta per Germaniam" As best as I can determine the phrase refers to the Franciscan Order who have been given the responsibility for the Holy Land by the Vatican. The General Commissioner of the Holy Land in each Catholic country is responsible for raising money for Holy Land activities. The Custodian of the Holy Land or "Custos" is responsible for the activities in the Holy Land and Jerusalem. The phrase contains a number of words and phrases that I can't find in any Latin dictionary. The maker of the map, Joann Georg Koller is not listed in any Dictionary or Bibliography of map makers. He is not listed in Brockhaus, or Benezit. I would appreciate any information on the maker and a more complete translation of the phrase.
