Hi,

I received this question today and don't know anything about this globe maker.
If any of you do, would you either post to the list and I'll pass along the
information to Mr. Nelson, or contact him directly? Also, he sent a picture of
the globe that I can forward to those interested.

Thanks, all,

Julie

Subject: Cheney Globe Co.

Dear Ms. Sweetkind-Singer,

The New Bedford Museum of Glass recently acquired a terrestrial globe bearing
the mark “CHENEY’S 8” TERRESTRIAL GLOBE WITH LATEST DISCOVERIES AND OCEANIC
CURRENTS.” The globe is mounted on a pressed glass stand in the frosted Madonna
design, made at both the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co., Sandwich, MA (1825-1888)
and at the Cristalliers de Baccarat, Baccarat, France.

We would like to learn more about the globe company, and also hope that we can
determine which glass company made the stand through globe company's dates of
operation. I have found a brief reference to the company being in production
from 1888 to c. 1900 in Mystic, CT (with the citation "Warner") and possibly
also Seneca Falls, NY.

Any assistance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A photo of our globe is attached.

Sincerely,
Kirk J. Nelson
