I am a bit unclear how ISHM will fit with and relate to existing
organizations interested in the same subject. What new organizationally
will it positively contribute to the present field? Competing
organizations seeking members from the same pool of interested parties
may not be the best way to go. Yes, each one has a different emphasis
such as IMCoS being for the collector of maps while map curator groups
serve the custodians of same in a national setting - roughly. As much
as I am interested in historic oeno-cartography, I don't think a
separate group for its study is called for. Umbrella organizations can
bring more clout in a unified manner and still encourage specialized
interest groups within it to flourish. There can be benefits with
separate groups, but please list the benefits in this case.
