For those who haven't tried it, Access 2000 is not really backwards 
compatible. It will open and read tables leaving them in prior formats, but 
you cannot change the design of anything without converting to 2000.

I just tried to open an Access 2000 table in MapInfo 5.5 and it cannot read it.
