I have had almost exactly the same problem. After several e-mails to both
this list and MapInfo TechSupport I finally got the answer. Cindy at
TechSupport fiddeled around with the problem and found out that if you
create 'named ranges' in your Excel file (Block the area needed -> select
'Insert' -> 'Name' -> 'Define...') then this name shows up in the list when
trying to open the file. You can copy the code from the .TAB file that is
created and use it in MapInfo.
