Dear Mike Yes Mapinfo offers two wildcards just like DOS. The equivalent to DOS ? is _(underscore). ie represents 1 ( any 1 ) character. The equivalent to * is %(per cent). This can represent from 0 to any number of chars. So if you search for %Main% you will get all of your Mains. When MI does such a fuzzy search it cannot take advantage of indexes so depending on your table size you might find this slower tan standard searches.
