Hi Martin

I don't know if this helps ... However (I used MI 6), I did the following and I could 
open the "table":

- created a new Access DB
- Linked an Excel file as Table
- created a query on the table (in Access)
- opened the Acces DB in MapInfo using ODBC
- opened the query ... and there the data was in MapInfo ... (means could not open the 
table, but the query)
