Hi Alistair!
I use to grab the graphics from acrobat reader, there are some selection
tools if you look.
You can zoom in as much as you want to get a nice resolution, the
selection tool autoscrolls when you reach the window edge.
The image gets copied to the clipboard and you can either paste it into
Word right away or edit the stuff in your image editor.
I found that this was the only way to get certain region fills to
transfer properly to Word with a reasonable resolution.
