I must say I completely agree with Dr. Wagendorp's concerns. He and I have
discussed these issues at length over the past few years.

To say that MapInfo has simply missed the boat here is a real understatement
- and moreover, to say that an agreement with a single university on the west
coast proves MI's resolve to crack the educational institution frontier is
the Firday humor for the week.

I have worked with a number of County governments in Michigan to assist in
implementing their GIS programs and all have felt the heavy hand of ESRI in
one form or another. "You're going to get free software", "everybody else is
already using ESRI", "its the standard in government", "if MapInfo was worth
their salt they'd be attending our conferences and challenging the ESRI hold
on the market" and on and on.

Those of us using MI are committed to the belief that it is the best solution
to the county and local government GIS need. Tomorrow's mappers are today's
students. If MI has any commitment to meeting the ESRI challenge in our
educational institutions they better @#$! or get off the pot!
