Hi All!

This is a common misunderstanding of how the undo tool and the undo
preferences work in MapInfo.

MapInfo can never undo more than ONE operation or command (and not all
commands are undoable, such as table structure edits).
However, this one command may affect a number of objects, and it is the
number of objects which is set in the preferences you refer to in your
post.

Let me make an example: Let's say that your number of undo objects is
set to 20.
You select 50 point objects and delete them. See that the Undo tool is
unavailable.
Now select 15 objects and delete them. Now you will be able to undo that
action.

Repeated clicks on the undo button simply moves back and forth between
the doing and undoing the last command.

As you understand, an undo button with this function is hardly worth the
screen space it occupies.
So I rely heavily on the Revert Table function instead.
Using this, you can always roll back your table to the last saved state.
So I make sure to save my table as soon as I venture into something
difficult, and then I can rest assured that I can revert to that state.
Of course, you must avoid unwanted saves while in the edit state, like
if you find that you need to alter the table structure.
