Here is how you would solve that algebraiclly

if x + y = 63

then x = 63 - y

solve for y

(5x + 10y) = 505

((5(63 - y)) + 10y) = 505

(315 - 5y + 10y) = 505

315 + 5y = 505

5y = 190

Answer:
y = 38(dimes)
x = 25(nickels)
