When Mapinfo was in its infancy(dos) I developed an extensive database regarding a number of surnames. I was able to create point files for location and geocode genealogical events against this point file. The purpose was to study the diffusion of particular surnames thru time. Before retiring from my academic career I purchased a windows copy of MapInfo 5. I recently tried to duplicate this project on Mapinfo5 and got totally stumped. It seems the only way I can geocode my data base is if I have a street file or database of postal codes. Unfortunately people in the 16th century didn't have either.
