I have had similar problem. I would add that you check to see if there are other layers with fill beneath which are covered up and not apparent in layout.
I have produced a grid of regions, filled them with stock fills and printed it through distiller to see what works, also one for colors. I have also found that rotated text can act strangely, as can hallo. I have also printed the color cells out on our printers (HP1000 and 750E)and on different mediums to see what the final output will really be.
