I second UltraEdit too. You can compile, link, and run your mb code; find text from all the files under the same folder; build macro; assign hotkey, edit HEX data ... ...

Another good one is Visual SlickEdit (Vslick), very powerful too. A few thing thats UltraEdit is not doing as good as Vslick are the file compare function, the SQL/PL SQL coding, and edit GB size files

I second Ultraedit. I haven't used the mapbasic interface in years since
Bill showed me how to set it up with Ultraedit. I can do my Java, C & C++,
and mapbasic all from the same editor. You can set up syntax highlighting
and basic syntax correction then open up different types of files in
different languages and toggle between them. Very valuable when you are
porting code from one language to another.

Uffe,
Edlin? I forgot that was even still in Windows until you mentioned it. As
long as we are going to torture ourselves lets mention vim too ;)

No, edlin is the best. You will find it on any dos/windows since dos was
invented. You just have to learn one editor and it will always be available
on any computer in front of you - no download from internet, no upgrades, no
patches - it's just ready ......

Uffe

PS: This must be part of the Friday funnies :-)

Go for Ultraedit. I have a setup description to MapBasic on my half dead
site
http://www.lanstorp.com under link ultraedit,
not only excellent for mapbasic kode, but also a very good text editor.
If you have problems with the setup you welcome to mail me.

Ultraedit is one on the three applications I want with me in the grave.
The two others are not yet decided.

Subject: MI-L Alternative Text Editor to native MapBasic

Hi List,

I was wondering if anybody uses an alternative to the native Mapbasic
Script editor.

Up until now I have been a native Mapbasic user stubling through.

I am testing out a couple of text Editors with Syntax Highlighting and
Custom Commands to activate the Mapbasic Compiler when required.

I would like to know of anyone has any recommendations of this type of
software they use.

Paul
