Christine,

I found this resource (http://www.sgsi.com/MIUserGroup/labe0598.htm) really
useful in understanding MI & labels. It explains the 3 different types of
labels and suggests the best approach to labelling.

Subject: MI-L Lables

Hi all,

I have noticed that when you manually select and move a lable it is no
longer turns on or off with the label option in the Layer Control box. You
now have to edit this lable seperately. Even if you have the editing box
selected the label seems to be added to the cosmetic layer.

Can anyone tell me why this is, and how to change a label position
permanently?

I know that when a layer is editable and you select some or all components
of that layer you can permanently change the line, region, text or symbol
style by using the Options menu on the toolbar, so why not the label
position?

Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks!

When I set the theme directory to the memory stick and copied all of the
MapInfo preset themes to the directory, the resultant themes worked, but did
not work correctly.

Having trouble saving Workspace to removeable device before.
i guess you have to save themes and data to the same device, thus it can
find related maps. Also the function set directory preference to your memory
stick may help

I will be teaching a GIS and Spatial Analysis and Statistics course during
fall semester at Loyola. We have Mapinfo site licenses for 25 computers.
However, the university does not allow student work to be saved on the
computer or server. Therefore, I am requiring students to use a memory stick
for their own work. However, I am having trouble saving themes to a memory
stick. Do you have any suggestions? Dick
