Hello Brian, I use cGPSmapper to convert Garmin Mapsource maps to ESRI .shp files which can be read from Mapinfo.
Keep in mind however that there are probably certain legal restrictions depending on the maps you wish to convert (and who owns them), so you should really check that out before you do anything else.
