Have a look at this tool http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/175, which will locate a point a specified distance along a line.  It includes the source code so you should be able to see how it's done from this.

I would like to create a line object within mapbasic  then get the xy coordinates along that line based on a set distance (ie every 5 meters return the x y coordinate).
