Not stupid. Given the multiple ways that vendors implement these features,
the confusion is understandable.

In MapInfo, scale bars and north arrows are just objects and can be deleted
like any others. Go into Layer Control and make the layer they are in
editable (and the topmost selectable layer). If you don't know which layer
that is, simply select one of the pieces of the scale bar and the layer name
will appear in MapInfo's status bar. If you just created the scale bar,
it's probably in the Cosmetic Layer.

The scale bar and north arrow may be in separate layers. In particular be
careful with the north arrow, it may be in a table called NORTHARW with
others like it. If that is the case, simply remove the NORTHARW layer from
your map. Don't delete the north arrow objects unless you're sure they're
copies made just for this map.

If you can verify that the objects you want to delete make up the whole of
the table (or cosmetic layer) they live in, you can just delete the table
(or clear the cosmetic layer) instead.

Next time you run the Scalebar tool, run "Map->Save Cosmetic Objects" or
"Map->Clear Cosmetic Layer" beforehand, and run "Map->Save Cosmetic Objects"
after you get a scale bar you like. If you do this, the Cosmetic Layer will
contain only the scalebar objects, and you can save the objects to a new
layer named Scalebar_something, which will contain the scalebar and only the
scalebar when you're done.

Hope this helps
Spencer

Subject: [MI-L] delete scalebar and north arrow, Mapinfo Pro. 7.0

Sorry for a stupid question,

How could a scalebar or a north arrow
be deleted in Mapinfo Pro. 7.0?
