BILL INTRODUCED TO REPEAL DATA LAW. Washington Post, 5 Apr. 1999. Last year Congress passed a bill that made all federally funded research data available to the public subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Scientists and institutions said the new law will allow interest groups to harass and intimidate scientists they disagree with and will expose their work to competitors. Rep. George Brown (D-CA) has introduced a bill to repeal last year's act. Speaking for Rep. Brown, former ASA Congressional Science Fellow Jean Fruci said the current legislation was a bipartisan bill that applied a simple solution to a complicated situation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
