A quick followup on this: I downgraded to 0.5.0 and double-checked all of my /usr/lib/ libboost_*.so symlinks according to OSM's guide, with no change in behavior: still pegs CPU and hogs memory when rendering a 256 x 256 pixel view from PostGIS data.
