Okay, well both the filename with or without the '.shp' extension are  
now valid with the 0.6.0 release.

Hmmm, okay, I think this may be a bug in SCons.

That bounding box is not right. It should be more like:

Envelope(-180.0,-93.188202,180.0,86.811798)

My hunch is that the shapefile is still not being properly read for  
some reason, so the map can't zoom to its bounds.

Should only take a few seconds to render.

Have you build mapnik from source previously without using this  
Portfile?
