Hmm, I've not seen this, but thanks for noting it.
I recently added a note about first running:
$ sudo port selfupdate/sync
I bet that would also fix the problem (updating to get a postgis port
bugfix maybe?)
Then I had to do another little dance to to get pkg-config to find
pycairo whilst configuring mapnik

Ah ha, I had forgotten about this, nice catch. Interestingly I've
added the same thing in the official Portfile, but the:
$ port install py26-mapnik +cairo # will fail to find pycairo
I've yet to figure out what is going on....
