Hello!

We got the rendering setup working on the server, but it is still rather
slow for medium zoom levels. So now I am wondering whether there are some
hints and tricks on how to speed up mapnik.

I am already pre-rendering the highest (and slowest) zoom levels. I had a
look at the SQL Statements, but due to the typical "tag=value or tag=value
or..." structure, the db does a table scan most of the time, I only found a
few places where indices would help.

Are there any recommendations on how to design a style sheet for better
performance?
Are many smaller layers better or very few huge layers?

I'd be thankful for any hints
