Ah, I see. So the infinite loop problems I was having is not a 0.6 vs
0.7 issue, it's that all the debian/ubuntu packages are compiled
against a buggy AGG and compiling one myself was using mapnik's
(patched) AGG. Things become much clearer, thanks!
