You need to import mapnik2 instead of mapnik. So perhaps that’s the issue?
Ultimately the plan if to make is to name it as mapnik though, once it
becomes a release.

Subject: [Mapnik-users] Deinstallation of mapnik2

Hi

i tried to install mapnik2 on ubuntu 10.04 last week. I thought it was going
ok, but I can´t import the mapnik library in python and it seems that the
boost version needed for mapnik2 isnt provided by the ubuntu 10.04
repositories.
