By the way, I tried copying _mapnik2.so to _mapnik2.dll. Then trying
to import mapnik2 gives
>>> import mapnik2
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/mapnik2/__init__.py", line
58, in <module>
    from _mapnik2 import *
ImportError: No such file or directory

Not much help.
