Hi Peter,

I've just commented on the ticket: http://trac.mapnik.org/ticket/820. We would 
need the python bindings updated, as well as the python tests updated for the 
patch to be accepted, and ideally some documentation.

Normally you would see TextSymbolizers being rendered in a separate style to 
ensure labels are placed on top of any POI icons, so it would be interesting to 
have you describe the cases where you think this is truly needed.
