Hi all,

I'm now completely confused. I have MapNik installed, Python2.6, OSGeo4W and
still have no idea how to install the Oracle OCI driver for use in
Python/MapNik...I have tried using the OGR library but when I reference OCI
as part of the OGR setup within my XML scripts for MapNik it cannot find the
OCI driver even though I have installed the OCI driver from the Advanced
section of the OSGeo4W installer.

It's got to the point now where I have no idea what to do or where to go. I
can connect to Oracle via the command line using SQLPlus and can connect
using OGRINFO from within OSGeo4W but no way does it work when running the
python script on my mapnik XML doc. In fact I'm having problems with all
other mapnik requests now so it looks like I've broken it so will have to
remove and re-install but without the Oracle functionality as default I can
see this just happening again and I've spent 2/3 days trying to get this to
work and I'm frustrated especially since it works so brilliantly with
SHP/TAB files but I really need to avoid using a filesystem in anyway shape
or form. Postgresql is an option but all our data is in Oracle so
transfering is just not going to work.

I don't understand what scons are ? where the OCI.dll's have to go, what has
to be built and where...it's just been so frustrating with bits of info in a
variety of places and I can't work out if all the help docs are just for
linux or windows or a combination.

Has anyone been down this road before ? Does anyone understand how to add
extra functionality/plugins in a windows environment simply ?

*I have no hassles whatsoever* *in adding to the wiki docs for MapNik for
Windows users on how to do add functionality or make modifications so
despite my protestations I am more than willing to contribute to MapNik wiki
notes/docs once I've got it working to help others*

Ben
