Hello,
gdal and mapserver both use a shapefile index format called .qix (e.g.
generated by a utility called shptree) this format is claim to be fast at
the mapserver homepage.
Reading the documentation mapnik seems to use another format instead called
.index (generated by a utility called shapeindex).
What is the reason for mapnik not beeing compatible to the rest of the FOSS
GIS world here? Is Mapnik able to use .qix files as well?
Regards
Sven

The main thing to note is that when you choose open source you don't
get a Windows operating system.
