Follow-up Comment #4, bug #36166 (project maposmatic):
Your option "2) Measure the translated text and if wider than the column, dial
back the point size until it fits." is definitely the one that should be
implemented, in addition to proper support for wrapping (i.e, when the
category title is multiline).
