Maintainers can feel free to not accept the patch and generate the gettext
files themselves. Is it perhaps a unclear maintainer hierarchy that is the
reason behind them not being merged? It didn't occur to me that they
weren't, what's holding them back?

If no objections have surfaced yet I'd say you should feel free to merge
yourself. You can merge your patches first, then merge my copyright patch,
then pull from transifex, generate gettext files, and push to transifex,
and simply leave my gettext patch.
