Besides being used quite a bit within the Hadoop code base itself, it is used
by Hive, Tez, and other downstream projects. I wonder if the removal is really
worth the disruption to downstream projects. It's not like this code has been
hard to maintain over the years, so for me it doesn't pass the cost-benefit
test. Maybe others feel differently.
