Thanks for the patch [~Jim_Brennan]! I'm working on testing this out.

One minor, optional, nit in the meantime. Considering convention for 
environment variables, it might be clearer to make the variable names uppercase 
in the various docs (VARNAME instead of varName, VAR1 instead of var1, etc).
