Dear Alan, yes . the issue was with the imageurl.
WEB TEMPLATE "/var/www/tutorial/example2-1.html" IMAGEPATH "/var/www/tutorial/tmp/" IMAGEURL "http://localhost/tutorial/tmp/" END now it works ! I was worrying about the permission , as not familiar with ubuntu and failed to identify actual error.
