Thanks. I was suspecting that ... The problem in this case is "magnified" by the harsh contrast between black and white (on smooth colors it does not "hit the eye" as much). I do not see any amplification effect if there are two lines or just one however (same layer, once as single lines and once as doubles looks exactly the same).
