I don't know for that particular point, but I remember having had this kind of issues with geos 3.0.0rc4 which I didn't had with rc3. Maybe just try it, for a test.

I had previously installed GEOS 3.0.0 with the following argument to
configure:

--with-geos=/usr/local/geos/bin/geos-config
