Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html Thought this would be of interest. Link to interactive maps is http://maps.grida.no/kyoto . I tried it and it crashed my Netscape 4.5 but ran on internet explorer. It's very slow if you try to move around the map but then doing that doesn't seem to make much sense as zooming in does not offer anymore detail. It may make sense to zoom in one step where countries are small. I believe it is base on ESRI's internet map server so it is quite slow. 56K modem users. like me, will probably give up but if you're lucky enough to have broadband, it might work quite well. The information is rich and informative. Seems like the technology is a bit of an overkill and just slows down the delivery, making this important information near inaccessible to many folks. Mike ------- Forwarded message follows ------- April 20th, 2001 Interactive Map of Greenhouse Gas Emissions ------------------------------------------------------------------ To assist the Kyoto protocol process - to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to counter climate change, a new interactive map has been launched. The "Greenhouse Gases & the Kyoto Protocol" presents data and statistics collected by international institutions. Using the map, any user can now evaluate the current state of emissions, and projections for the future. The data is available both as total emissions, and as emissions per citizen in each country that has signed the Kyoto protocol. It is also possible to zoom in and closer examine a specific part of the world, or to get a graph of the emissions covering a period of 20 years. The presentation in this map provides an easy way to examine the statistics, and also to evaluate the agenda in climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. The website was developed by UNEP/GRID-Arendal in Norway, a United Nations Environment Programme information centre, and the website is also a part of the UNEP.Net environmental network. - ----------------------------------------------------------------- For more information, please contact: Hugo Ahlenius, tel. +47- 37035713, email [EMAIL PROTECTED], or ke Bjrke, tel. +47- 37035711, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://maps.grida.no/kyoto Greenhouse Gases & the Kyoto Protocol http://www.grida.no GRID-Arendal web site ______________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
