MT Users:
A reminder that another source of polygon files for the US that may not
be supplied with Maptitude is the US Census Bureau. If you are working
with MT 4.7, you can access the Census Bureau Geography page and
download the TIGER 2003 line file for any state and build a census
block polygon file with MT by importing the TIGER line file &
selecting census block as the layer top build. Note:
if you are using older versions of Maptitude which do not read Post
2000 TIGER line file formats, download the Census 2000 TIGER/Line
file. There are other area geographies
available on the TIGER line file also, such as school districts,
traffic analysis zones, etc which may be useful for special projects.
Go to: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/index.html
The resulting block file built by Maptitude has the full census
geographic area code to link the area file with census block data which
can be extracted from SF-1 for Census 2000.
By building a block layer & adding it to the other layers supplied
with Maptitude, you have the complete array of census geographies to
choose from.
I have been through this whole procedure for the State of
Virginia...write me back if you need more specific tips.

I assume you are referring to blocks as the areas delimited by
street
segments. In that case, the only "real" geographic entities you
have are the streets. You cannot select "blocks" because
they do no exist in their own polygon layer.
One potential workaround is to convert the streets in
your
region of interest to Areas, and then import the
resulting layer to your map. After that, you will be able to
select individual "blocks". Be advised not to convert the
whole US street layers to Areas; due to the huge file size you may
encounter a number of problems during the conversion
Cheers
