It just hit me while watching CNN and reading the papers, that it can also happen to our country (may God spare us from this type of disaster). The inquirer today reports that this possibility is just a matter of time and they can envision that of the same magnitude will happen to us due to poor constructions in most of metro manila’s buildings as approved by the corrupt municipal authorities. I am sending an email to all of you as this poses a great concern for all of us and our families (specially our children whom we leave and entrust most of the time while we are at work to their respective schools). I sat down in one of the PTA meetings and I asked the school administration about their disaster preparedness and I am not satisfied with their preparations (once a year fire drill as mandated by the fire dept of QC – not enough!). I volunteered myself to help them come up with a disaster readiness program. I was hoping that our HSSE experts in Shell have something that they can share with the school admin and the kids but sad to say, most of our safety programs are very specific to our corporate requirements. I am appealing to all of you, if you know of someone who can help us in this area, that probably he/she can share with us some thoughts/programs that we can also rollout to our children’s schools. Also, if you don’t mind, try to ask the school admin about this area and assess how ready they are with this ie. Fire, rampage shooting, earthquake, etc. (After working with Shell for quite some time, I felt I became too paranoid about safety). I guess it is better to be prepared than sorry. Do you think Marist School has a good safety standards in all their buildings? May Jesus Christ continue to bless us all and our country all the days of our lives – amen!
