Batch mates:

Thanks to all who replied and thanks to Louie for expressing his intent to help
out and address this issue.

What I have in mind (and I am opening this for discussion with our other batch
mates) is for Louie to hold a formal workshop or training and do it at the
Marist ground (AV room). We can invite some professors we know there ie. Cofz,
Mr. Purto so that we can use their facilities for free. In our batch, I guess
10 people will be a good number for a workshop (Louie, your call bro) or those
Friday Basketball-ista club can be the one to join the workshop.

And to make the workshop a meaningful and successful one, we hope to cascade
this to our children’s school and/or as suggested, let’s organize a response
team from our batch (We need Louie’s input for this. He is the SME here anyway).

Louie: When do you think you can hold this workshop? Are you okay to do this in
the month of February? Will you be amenable to do it over a weekend? Saka
papainumin ka na lang namin ha after your training kahit ilang bote. Bahala na
si Darwin sa iyo…siya ang malakas uminom ehJ

Batchmates: Is there anyone who can help us organize a venue in Marist campus?
Si Jeff Gayda kaya is in this egroup? (Jeff: Please help if you read this email
chain)

God bless you all!

Kind Regards,

Gary

Subject: [marist90] Disaster Readiness of School

Hi batch mates:

I am sure you all know what is happening in Haiti and the disaster that
continuously affects their lives now. It just hit me while watching CNN and
reading the papers, that it can also happen to our country (may God spare us
from this type of disaster). The inquirer today reports that this possibility
is just a matter of time and they can envision that of the same magnitude will
happen to us due to poor constructions in most of metro
manila’s buildings as approved by the corrupt municipal
authorities.

I am sending an email to all of you as this poses a great concern for all of us
and our families (specially our children whom we leave and entrust most of the
time while we are at work to their respective schools). I sat down in one of
the PTA meetings and I asked the school administration about their disaster
preparedness and I am not satisfied with their preparations (once a year fire
drill as mandated by the fire dept of QC – not enough!). I
volunteered myself to help them come up with a disaster readiness program. I
was hoping that our HSSE experts in Shell have something that they can share
with the school admin and the kids but sad to say, most of our safety programs
are very specific to our corporate requirements.

I am appealing to all of you, if you know of someone who can help us in this
area, that probably he/she can share with us some thoughts/programs that we can
also rollout to our children’s schools. Also, if you
don’t mind, try to ask the school admin about this area and
assess how ready they are with this ie. Fire, rampage shooting, earthquake,
etc. (After working with Shell for quite some time, I felt I became too
paranoid about safety). I guess it is better to be prepared than sorry.

Do you think Marist School has a good safety standards in all their buildings?

May Jesus Christ continue to bless us all and our country all the days of our
lives – amen!

Kind Regards,

Gary Cabalde
