It is a good article and thanks to Steve for writing and Karen to *trying* to
promote. Sunando is right – its great to see any cloudstack related coverage
and I agree that this can only help the overall awareness.

However, it is an article about CCP, not about Apache Cloudstack. I have no
criticism of that, its great to see, and an interesting read.

From a practicality viewpoint:
I think the problem with promoting this from the project is it could actually
lead to confusion. (we all know many in the media still refer to this as Citrix
Cloudstack) . If the official Cloudstack feeds suddenly start tweeting about
specific vendors tech or services, that’s ripe for confusion

From a governance perspective:
The project should not be promoting 3rd party product marketing in this way.
With a marketers hat on, that’s frustrating, but I wouldn’t ask an Apache
project to promote my business through official channels

On Marks comment “dammed if we do, dammed if we don’t” : Mark I don’t think
anybody’s criticising anybody else for ramping up the marketing efforts. The
previous threads were about the uncertainty of Citrxs involvement in
Cloudstack, and this type of activity certainly helps dispel some of that. I
think this is a specific issue about asking a “group of volunteers” to start
promoting a piece of vendor marketing. To that extent, I think this discussion
thread would have started at any point in time if Karen made the same request
(i.e. I think we need to separate these two subjects. This is a specific issue
been raised about this one request – not about the bigger picture)

But lets not fight over this: I’m happy to tweet about this article, (and think
I already have ) - I’m sure many others here will also be happy to do so (and
some may not)

Kind Regards
Giles

I think promoting this blog actually helps our overall cause.

Over the last few months, we have always felt that one of the major reasons of
cloudstack being a laggard (adoption-wise) is the general perception in the
market that Citrix is slowly pulling out its support from the project. Hence
articles like these go a long way in changing those perceptions.

Moreover, one of the big reasons for the widespread interest in Openstack is
the number of vendors offering commercial forks/support on it. Hence if any
other vendor comes out with the same for cloudstack, we should happily promote.

However, I also agree with Abhi that any post by Citrix should also have a few
lines that talk about the Cloudstack project/ community in general.

Yes, it is a nice post about the closed source private fork, that was rarely
discussed in community.

I would expect such blogs that are promoted officially to do more to display
the vibrancy of the community, instead of taking a narrow view.
It is debatable whether it should be promoted officially, though for this
instance I will keep my vote neutral.
